It is not that every single person who applies for a job most likely has a criminal record; it is only that many people falsify items on their resume. They do this to boost the chances of impressing the potential employer and getting hired. Should they get caught later by a thorough criminal record background check, they can beg and promise and strive harder to impress the boss, and not get fired. But then such good people who use tainted methods are rare. More often that not, in the eyes of an employer, tainted people make for tainted employees.
