Transportation services: Ryder agrees to acquire Pollock National Lease

Global transportation and supply chain management services provider Ryder said this week it has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Pollack National Lease, a privately-owned full service truck leasing company based in Strathoy, Ontario.

Air shipping: IATA says July air freight demand up 5.5 percent

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported today that international air freight demand rose 5.5 percent in July, compared to 4.9 percent in June. The IATA said this increase was well above the 2.7 percent in growth over the first half of 2007.

U.S June surface trade with Canada and Mexico in May up 3.9%

Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was up 3.9% in June 2007 compared to June 2006 and reached $69.5 billion, according to data released by the United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today.

YRCW set to begin contract negotiations with Teamsters by September

Global transportation services provider YRC Worldwide Inc. (YRCW) said yesterday that its Transportation Management Inc. (TMI) member subsidiaries—Yellow Transportation and Roadway, among others—will begin contract negotiations with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) for the new National Master Freight Agreement (NMFTA) as soon as early September.
